Reasons Why Your Air Conditioning is Blowing Warm Air

Why Your Air Conditioning is Blowing Warm Air

There are several reasons why your air conditioning could not be functioning properly.

With summer in full effect, there is nothing worse than looking to your AC to cool down your Western New York home, and realizing that it is pushing out air that is at a less than desirable temperature. There are several reasons why your air conditioning could not be functioning properly. We are going to review common causes as to why your air conditioning is blowing warm air.

Reasons Why Your Air Conditioning is Blowing Warm Air

Your Western New York home cooling system is no exception to the saying, “When it rains it pours”. In fact, if your AC starts producing hot air, it is usually on the warmest day of the year. With regular air conditioning maintenance, you can typically prevent a gap in your cooling system’s function. If your air conditioner is blowing warm air, it doesn’t always mean full system failure; there are reasons why your AC has stopped providing you with the cool breeze you are looking for, for relief from the heat.

Thermostat Setting: Having your thermostat incorrectly set, is perhaps the easiest fix for warm air coming out of your AC. The first thing to check if your AC is blowing hot air, is your thermostat. Ensure that it is set on “cool” and not “heat” and make sure the temperature is in your desirable range.

Air Filter Issues: Having a dirty air filter can cause restricted airflow with your AC and can cause your air conditioner to blow warm air. Air filters live up to their name. To put it simply, they filter your air. Air filters keep dust and pollen out and are also tasked with keeping larger particles and materials out of your HVAC system, in turn, saving your system from damage. If your AC is producing hot air, check your filter and change your air filter, if needed.

Condenser Problems: Your AC condenser is the outdoor portion of your air conditioner that works as a heat exchange to create the cool air for your air conditioning. A dirty condenser or condenser with electrical issues can be a reason your air conditioning is blowing warm air. Check your AC condenser for dirt, leaves, tall grass or debris. If you see a blockage, remove it. A blown fuse can also be an issue with your condenser unit, and this could lead to the indoor component pushing out hot air.

Refrigerant and/or Air Duct Leak: Refrigerant line joints and connections can come loose, causing a leak in the refrigerant. If you have a leaky air ducts, that could also be the reason why our air conditioning is blowing warm air. This is usually a larger issue, because your ducts are likely hidden in walls, floors, ceilings, etc. and you should contact a local air conditioning expert to help you diagnose and resolve the problem.
